A Creature Design Workshop

In this playful, hands-on workshop, artist Thai Martin will guide participants through the process of designing a cohesive set of original characters. You will begin with a theme and a feeling, then learn how to translate that inspiration into a visual language using shapes, silhouettes, color palettes, and repeated design rules.
Through quick drawing exercises, guided planning, group discussion, and guided independent illustration time, you will create a loose collection page featuring at least three fully rendered creatures.

This workshop runs as part of Bestiary, a solo exhibition of 50+ works representing over 150 creature designs built across daily drawing challenges, themed series, and personal world-building projects spanning several years.
If you've already visited, the workshop goes behind the work. If you haven't visited yet, it's a another good reason to join the workshop.
Anyone who draws, even occasionally. Casual sketchers, illustrators, graphic designers, and people who fill sketchbooks but have never called themselves artists.
Some drawing comfort is useful, but the exercises stay approachable at any skill level. You do not need to arrive with an existing character world. Several prompts will be available if you want a starting point, or you can bring your own.
Thai will work in watercolor during the session. You can work in pencil, ink, fineliner, watercolor, markers, colored pencils, or mixed media.
You may bring what you like to draw with or use the materials provided at the workshop.
